“So I’m not normally one to speak publicly on Facebook like this, but this is something that can no longer go unsaid.

Eat Out To Help Out was brought into the hospitality industry on Monday, and this has put a completely different type of strain on every person in the industry. We have seen numbers increase dramatically overnight. Yes, it is nice to see so many people coming out again, but much more than just revenue is at stake here. I believe that this scheme is not having the effect the government had intended for.

As a chef, in this wonderfully diverse sector. I have seen mental, emotional and physical health deteriorate dramatically all around me. From the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected every one who walks the earth in one way or another, to now the Eat Out to Help Out “scheme”.

Today we had our busiest day since Christmas, you will never know the amount of blood, sweat and tears go into everything you eat. And that’s the glamour of being able to hide behind a menu and wait the standard 20 minutes (which many customers love to round up to 40 minutes, when demanding to know the whereabouts of their meals.

There is more pressure than ever on Chefs, front of house and business owners alike and we need to stand together and pick each other up when we are down. If you have friends/family in the industry or even just happen to know someone however distantly, just spare a minute out of your day to see how they’re doing. In a world which is quickly becoming unbareable to live in, we need support more than ever.

What can you, as a customer do to help? Be as kind and courteous as your server is to you. A smile can go an unbelievably long way, is it so hard to muster? Just because it’s all half price, doesn’t mean you need to order double the amount of food, just for half of it to come back to the kitchen or have it wrapped up for takeaway. Eat Out To Help Out is to help the industry, not to make the customer feel entitled and demand the world from an amazing team of people, who haven’t managed to stop working for the past 15 hours, simply to please you.

Tipping. Yes, tips are not mandatory but we are all trying to make ends meet in these tough times, but when we have bent over backwards to please you (and you save 50% in the process) is a simple 10% tip such a massive ask? It doesn’t take a genius to work out that you’re still saving 40% (if you use EOHO for it’s intended purpose) and believe me, that will work wonders to help a person who is having to work 60+ hour weeks in a minimum wage job, being treated like utter crap. Simply to put food on the table (which would be nowhere near as luxurious as that lunch you’ve just had).

We are all working much harder to provide the same excellent level of service you have all become accustomed to. Following the COVID rules is not a big ask. Our NHS & key workers have done an amazing job with keeping this country running as best as they can and we simply cannot afford another spike. If you find it hard to comply with the very easy-to-follow signage or simply can’t seem to operate a sanitizer dispenser properly, do the country a favour and just don’t come out. We’ll all be safer for it.

To my fellow Chefs and hospitality workers. We’ve got this 👊 we are losing far to many of us to suicide and addiction, we are all in this together, so please don’t for one second feel as though you’re alone. If anybody ever needs to talk, whether I know you personally or not, my inbox is always open. We are one team, we have one goal.

so sad to read this, Ive been helping out a charity, customer facing, 80% are great, 10% are indifferent, the last 10% are utter bast%rds and should be locked up, not locked down.

This weekend see the launch of our new Sunday Roast sharing platter in addition to our hugely popular plated roast launched last weekend....

The “Botany Bay Sunday Roasts Sharing Board” is served at your table for four people, this weekends option is an overnight slow roasted shoulder of lamb and it comes to your table on a platter with all of the trimmings for you to carve/serve yourself. It’s available by preorder only, orders before 4pm on a Friday for the coming Sunday.

We reopen at 12pm on Saturday, with our new Botany Bay Plated Roast being served between 12pm to 4pm on Sundays, which is served with the usual favourites and some new veg dishes like Creamy Leek & Cauliflower   cheese & Buttery Mashed Swede!!
The new normal means that we will be operating on Sundays for our roast with bookings only, but to ensure we provide adequate social distancing, there are less tables available, so we advise that you get your bookings in as soon as possible as we are booking up fast.
We also have a new menu that includes our amazing pizzas, Cajun Chicken & Bacon Salad, Poached Egg, Bacon & Black Pudding Starter, our NEW!! - 4 Pastas - 4 Sauces option, where you can choose your favourite Pasta and Sauce combination and it comes with a side salad & garlic bread. Our new sharing boards will include new options like a delicious whole Roast Chicken, an overnight slow Roasted Shoulder of Lamb and a succulent Slow Roasted Pork Belly with the best crackling, but as you will appreciate, in order to assist our kitchen, they will only be available by preorder before 6pm on Thursdays for Sunday.
